Come and learn about the Kansas Humane Society, which is one of the largest shelters in the Midwest .  The KHS offers many programs including; Project Companionship, Meet Your Match, Canine Enrichment & Training Program and the annual celebration of peace, love and pets, Woofstock.  Find out the program that you might need.  Kristi will also bringing special guests, in the form of puppies.

 

 

The Kansas Humane Society was founded in 1888 by prominent Wichita citizens in response to animal cruelty and neglect suffered by horses used in trade. Early on, volunteers sheltered stray dogs, one at a time, in a supporter's backyard dollhouse. In the 1920's, the Society's first shelter was built.  

 

In the last 100+ years, the Society's services have increased along with the community's needs.  The Kansas Humane Society also houses animals affected by natural disasters, domestic violence animal cruelty and other emergencies.  Many animals are taken to nursing homes where they offer their unique style of comfort and care to residents. And KHS staff and volunteers educate students and the general public about proper pet ownership and civic responsibility.

 

Kristi Oberg began as the Director of  Development at the Kansas Humane Society in February 2005.   Previously, Kristi served as the development director for the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ).  Prior to that she was the recruitment manager for the Kansas Children's Service League, and took an active role in recruiting foster and adoptive parents.  She holds a Master's degree in Communications from Wichita State University .
