Let me introduce myself. My name is Dr. Laura L. Shook.
I am a chiropractor with an office located in downtown Wichita KS.
I was born under a Scorpio Sun with a Sagittarius moon and a Libra rising. I
grew up on the coast of central California in the small town of Carmel and began
working in my parent’s pharmacy at the age of 12. By the age of 18, I was my
father's pharmacy technician and assisted my mother with the bookkeeping.

Most of my 20's were spent working in a hippie coffee house and studying the
martial art Aikido. I received my black belt in 1983 and taught at Monterey Aikido
until 1986.  It was Aikido that introduced me to my first chiropractor. I was
charmed and delighted by this hands-on-therapy which provided me with
immediate relief from an injury sustained during Aikido Practice.

It was also during my Aikido years that I studied massage therapy at the
Monterey Institute of Touch (yea I studied at MIT). In an effort to expand my
knowledge of the body and to become a more effective healer; I applied to and
was accepted at Palmer College of Chiropractic West and graduated Magna
    Cum Laude in 1991.

By 1993 I had completed an association with a chiropractor who, I am happy to
say, taught me everything I NEVER wanted to do in my own practice.
A much needed vacation brought me to Wichita. The people, the weather and the
low cost of housing left me charmed, entertained and delighted. Returning home
I sold my stuff, loaded up my truck and moved to Wichita Kansas.
Drawing upon experiences in Aikido, massage therapy, chiropractic, pharmacy
and yes, even that old hippie coffee house, I opened my office in August of 1993.

I run a one woman show. I do the doctor’n, I answer the phone and I water the
plants. If you get the voice mail, leave a message and it is I, The Good Dr. Laura,
    who will call you back.
It was the summer of 2002 when I first discovered the Riverview Retreat
Community. Good Luck? Serendipity? Cosmic intervention? Who knows? I felt
like I had walked through a wormhole and stepped into the groovy vibrations and
camaraderie from my Aikido-hippie coffee house days … I had come home.

The Story of Salad Boy or How I Met Mr. Fellers will have to wait for another time
… and perhaps a glass of wine.
